Create Arabic audio posts with ‘Sowt’

Launched in December 2012, Sowt (Arabic for voice) is a social networking platform based on audio recordings. The team behind Sowt claims the platform was built to promote discussion and dialogue through short audio posts: “It is a tool for having conversations with people across the world without the misinterpretations of tone and punctuation.”
Founded, designed, and developed in Jordan, Sowt comes with identical Arabic and English interfaces; a trait you don’t find in most of the Arabic apps out there.
What is cool about Sowt is that you can listen to an audio post about the rain in Amman, and on top of it is a political opinion about what’s going on in Syria.
Using Sowt for the first time is fairly easy, just follow these steps:

• Create an account
Sign up using your Twitter or Facebook account or start a completely new account on Sowt by adding your name, email address and a password.
• Record messages
Join the conversation. Start recording, pause and resume if you need to. Oreview your post, add a text description, hashtags, an image and even your location. Share with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.
You can record up to 42 seconds of audio and broadcast it directly to your network.
• Add friends
Find friends already on Sowt by searching your address book, Facebook or Twitter accounts or invite friends from Facebook.
• Explore topics and channels
Find out what’s trending (hashtags) on Sowt using the new explore page

Sowt has many features but two of them stood out for me:
• Listen on the go. You can play all what’s on your timeline, a topic of interest, a search query or another user’s timeline using the “Play all” button.
• Echo, like or add any post to your play list or just tap on it to hear and add comments
