DUBAI: An Indian bride in the state of Jharkhand divorced her new husband Wednesday, mere minutes after the marriage ceremony was witnessed by guests.
The bride called for the divorce after the groom suddenly began making demands for a new motorbike from the bride’s family and disrespected her father, Gulf News reported.
The bride, Rubana Parween, daughter of Mohammad Basruddin Ansari, reneged on her vows after the groom's alleged misconduct.
Soon after the wedding, the groom purportedly began demanding a Bajaj Pulsar bike after the bride’s family had already purchased a Hero Passion PRO bike earlier demanded by the groom as part of his dowry.
According to Gulf News, the groom then got into an altercation with the bride’s father to which the bride responded: “The man who has no respect for my father can’t be my husband.”
She reportedly added: “I didn’t want to stay with a greedy groom.”
Soon, the religious Chandve village elders were called and the bride handed the groom a divorce just 30 minutes after the wedding.
According to the newspaper, villagers then shaved the heads of the groom and his brother and forced them to wear a garland of shoes around their necks, along with the slogan “I am dowry greedy.”
