DUBAI: The Kuwait Central Blood Bank (KCBB) has started to produce plasma artificially to help treat coronavirus patients, the agency’s head of blood transfusion Dr. Reem Al-Radhwan said.
The process entails taking samples from COVID-19 patients who recovered from the disease, and transfusing it to current patients to help them boost their immunity, she said in a statement to state news agency KUNA.
“The plasma donation from former patients should start soon after the end of their home quarantine,” Dr. Al-Radhwan said, which was according to the standards set by the World Health Organization, since they still keep high levels of antibodies three weeks into their recovery.
Blood plasma extracted from a former patient could help treat three active patients, she added.
