RIYADH: In observance of International Corruption Day, which falls annually on Dec. 9, the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, known as Nazaha, hosted a virtual forum on the role of protecting whistleblowers in strengthening efforts to combat financial and administrative corruption.
The International Anti-Corruption Day this year carries the theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The observance aims to raise awareness about the dangers of corruption and emphasizes the importance of both local and global collaboration to combat it.

Its commitment to eliminating corruption and addressing its root causes is a national responsibility aimed at safeguarding public funds and protecting national interests, according to the SPA report.

Nazaha organizes various events and activities to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of corruption on individuals and society at large.

The forum hosted by Nazaha on Monday saw the participation of international experts and representatives from various government agencies who delved into the need to secure the protection of whistleblowers, a measure that can significantly increase the reporting of corrupt practices.
Through the forum, Nazaha aims to strengthen international partnerships and facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices in the fight against corruption.
The Riyadh initiative for the creation of a global operational network of anti-corruption law enforcement authorities, known as the GlobE Network, reflects the Kingdom’s prominent global leadership in the fight against corruption.
The initiative was officially recognized by the UN on Dec. 17, 2021, during the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption, held in Egypt. Over 55 countries and 92 anti-corruption agencies worldwide have joined this initiative.
